Pure Power finishes Mentalist season – provided base camp power on location

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

Pure Power has just completed the season powering the on-location base camps for The Mentalist (Warner Bros., broadcast on CBS) – our “S48″ base camp power system was used to power the show’s base camp whenever it went out on location.

The 48 did great work this season, providing all base camp power for up to 10 hours on this big show. The 48 has also provide base camp power on Inception and the upcoming Steve Carell comedy release Crazy, Stupid, Love

We could tell you, or you could read the quote from the show’s transportation coordinator:

“The production of The Mentalist works hard to be energy efficient and sustainable in creating our show. During the 2010-2011 season, to save fuel and reduce our carbon footprint, we powered our base camp with the world’s largest Mobile Solar Power System whenever we were out on location. It has been exciting for the entire cast and crew to be leaders in this effort and to do our part for the environment.”

Stay tuned for more feedback from the Mentalist and some cool events we’ve done this Spring.

The Power of Social Media: Pure Power, Leo DeCaprio and Inception

Leonardo DiCaprio

PRLog (Press Release)Aug 05, 2010 – They say that the fluttering of butterfly wings in the Philippines can result in a hurricane across the Pacific. This tenet of chaos theory provides an irresistible parallel to a social media storm that erupted last week over an interview with Leo DiCaprio in … you guessed it … the Philippine Inquirer

…Ecorazzi posts the Facebook link, and within a few days the story had propagated across the web to more than 50 sites, including Forbes, The Huffington Post, Treehugger (right in front of Chelsea’s wedding, no less!)”

Ecorazzi: DiCaprio Brought Solar Power To ‘Inception’ Set

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Ecorazzi is our favorite source for green gossip and information about what the entertainment industry – and its biggest stars – are doing for the environment.

Today, Michael d’Estries posted a story about the worlds’ largest Mobile Solar Power System which was used on Inception – the red hot Warner Bros. film, starring red-hotter Leo DiCaprio and Marion Cottilard.

DiCaprio is as dialed in to environmental issues as almost anyone on the planet.

After a conversation with Warner Bros. President Alan Horn, Leo helped bring Mobile Solar Power front and center in powering the base camp of Inception when it was shooting in LA late last summer. Read the post here.

Homeless teens check out Pure Power at Warner Bros.

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Last month a group of homeless teens who live at an LA Family Housing family shelter were introduced to Pure Power and the world’s most powerful Mobile Solar Power System. It was one of those moments where, one hopes, the concept of renewable energy was made real in young people’s lives.

The visit was part of “Hollywood 101″, a 10-week course I developed specially for LA Family Housing to introduce middle and high school kids to potential careers in Hollywood. On their field trip to Warner Bros., the kids were able to meet and talk with Jonny Romano, Manager of Sustainable Production, who told them about the many things Warner Bros. is doing to reduce the environmental impact of its feature films.

You might think that would have been “less than interesting” to a group of homeless teens, but it’s times like these when one realizes that kids this age are the hope for the planet.

One might think that these kids had every reason not to care about externalities like recycling and climate change – they’ve got more pressing concerns, right? – But they get this stuff intuitively and they act on it. They get recycling, they get “carbon neutrality”, and they get solar power. When Romano was speaking, you could have heard a pin drop (and since the “48″ was running and not a diesel generator, you really could have heard it…)

Pure Power’s Mark Garrett was incredibly generous with his time, and spent over an hour sharing his knowledge and life experience with the kids. One said, “Man, I want to do what he does. That looks so cool!”

Seeing the one-of-a-kind 48-foot Solar System powering the base camp of the new Steve Carrell production, on the lot at Warner Bros., was a special experience for these kids, who have so many challenges. Warner does a lot in this community, and here was a great example.

World’s largest mobile solar power system hits movie sets

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Read this nice piece in the Mother Nature Network about our S48 Mobile Solar Power System – the World’s Largest Mobile Solar Power System – and the good work it’s doing in the entertainment industry.

Here’s one image of what a ton of CO2 really looks like

If you’ve been following Pure Power, you already know that the “48″ avoids (does not produce) a ton or more of Carbon Dioxide each day that is ordinarily produced by a big diesel generator. The S48 – built on a 48-foot trailer (the classic “18-wheeler” trailer) and with its large solar panel array and interconnected series of batteries, the 48 needs only a single driver operator, and runs clean and quiet.

In fact, on its current production running the base camp of a feature film here in LA, the 48 is actually running 24/7, with a reduced load through the night. That means the carbon savings are far more than a ton, each day, along with the large amounts of the 40 carcinogenic compounds that are ordinarily put into the atmosphere by diesel generators.

Environmental Media Association Features Hybrid Base Camps in Newsletter

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Just received our latest issue of the EMA Spring 2010 Newsletter, and were pleased to see our Hybrid Solar Base Camp mentioned as providing clean power for a Warner Bros. production. EMA – The Environmental Media Association – mobilizes the entertainment industry in educating people about environmental issues, which in turn, inspires them to take action.

Pure Power readers will recall that we provided a Hybrid Mobile Solar Power System(TM) to the production of “Valentine’s Day” (Garry Marshall directed, with Julia Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Ashton Kutcher, Shirley MacLaine among the host of mega-stars) . The Hybrid Base Camp consisted of Solar Generators – Hybrid S10 Mobile Solar Power Systems(TM) working alongside Solar Star Waggons(TM) – all working together to avoid a ton of carbon dioxide per day, as well as daily doses of the 40 other carcinogens found in diesel exhaust.

Right now, Pure Power is back at the movies, providing Warner Bros. with the world’s largest Mobile Solar Power System – our 600 Amp/72,000 watt S48 unit is currently powering the base camp of Steve Carell’s current feature production. Everyone working on the production likes that solar systems are silent, and produce no exhaust or smell. Just good clean power!

Steve Carell & Cameron Diaz

Green stars Steve Carell & Cameron Diaz

Steve Carell, the hilarious star of “The 40-Year Old Virgin” and “The Office” now has a new title: “really green comedic actor”. This is because the base camp of his new feature Warner Bros. film project is being solar-powered by the world’s largest Mobile Solar Power System™.

The really powerful solar generator – the S48T designed by Pure Power Distribution – was recently seen powering the base camp of the Leo DiCaprio (“really green serious actor”) starrer “Inception” – so you know this solar system has chops.

What does the world’s largest Mobile Solar Power System do all day? Well, it looks incredibly cool, with moveable solar panels that can track the sun, and then fold down for transport. But even in Hollywood, looking cool is not as important as being cool: the S48T produces 600 Amps of pure sine wave power with no noise, and no emissions – keeping about a ton of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere each day – along with the other 40 carcinogens found in diesel exhaust.

“Valentine’s Day” – green film for the pink day

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

_MG_3889 5x3@300 - C-UNew Line Cinema is set to release “Valentine’s Day”, the new comedy feature directed by legend Garry Marshall on February 12th, just in time for … well, Valentine’s Day.

In checking out the trailer, one might ask if there are ANY gorgeous stars in Hollywood that are NOT in this picture. But attention all greens: between the laughs, remember that that the production was the first in the world to use a Mobile Solar Base Camp Power System throughout production in Los Angeles, that included our Hybrid Super 10 systems working in tandem with Solar Star Waggons!

“…and there were days it would be completely silent ’cause we were running completely on solar power”

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

In a new article on ABC Technology and Science News, Pure Power’s Mobile Solar Power Systems are brought to the fore – check out this story that describes how

“Movie Studios Try to Reduce Carbon Footprint by Using Green Technology”

“The upcoming star-studded film “Valentine’s Day” was arguably the greenest production yet. The “base camp,” where trailers for wardrobe, makeup and the cast usually sit idling on generator power all day, was instead run on hybrid energy. The films executive producer, Diana Pokorny, could hear the difference. “Normally you’d walk onto a base camp, and there would be the hum of generators,” she said, “and there were days it would be completely silent ’cause we were running completely on solar power.” This saved the production 18 metric tons of CO2.

Here’s a photo of one day’s base camp, with our Solar Hybrid Base Camp Power System configured to include a solar Star Waggons (foreground, with rooftop photovoltaic panels) and 3 Hybrid S10 Mobile Solar Power Systems.Valentines Day Base Camp 4x2@200
