Does the Santa Monica Ice Rink use Pure Power? You bet!

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

One might think that having an ice rink in Santa Monica is not energy efficient – but one might be surprised at how many innovations are occurring in our fair city, where we like to lead by example:

From the Santa Monica Ice Rink website:

  1. Does the Ice Rink use renewable energy?

To power everything from the rink to the computers, ICE uses a combination of eco-friendly lights, solar power and renewable energy credits. It uses LED and compact fluorescent bulbs throughout the rink area. These use between 20-30% less energy and last 8 to 15 times longer than regular incandescent bulbs! In addition, replacing one single LED or fluorescent bulb for an incandescent one keeps a half-ton of CO2 out of the atmosphere over its lifetime! (View Reference) Using a Mobile Solar Power System, we are making everything but the rink run on the sun. The City of Santa Monica purchases renewable energy credits for all of its operations, and that includes the rink.

Pure Power Play of the Day (World Cup Soccer)

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Pure Power Distribution provides pure clean power for commercial uses such as the 2010 ESPY Awards (more on that soon).

Today’s Pure Power Play of the Day comes from the World Cup third-place game. Diego Forlan’s volley in the second half left the German keeper unable to move off his line and gave Uruguay a 2-1 lead against the high-scoring German squad.

Forlan almost equaled that gorgeous goal in the final seconds, but his topspin free kick hit the crossbar and bounded out. Germany wins 3-2, but Forlan gets the Pure Power Play of the Day.

Over 200 firms applied, and Pure Power presented its business plan before 100 Investors on April 19th.

As part of the qualification process, Pure Power’s second and third bottom line impacts were analyzed by B Corporation through its B Impact Rating System. The B Impact Ratings System is an assessment tool that measures companies’ social and environmental performance in the impact areas of leadership, employees, community, environment, and consumers. Using the B Impact Ratings System, companies can assess their performance, benchmark their performance relative to comparable businesses, and use the tool to increase their social and environmental impact.

Pure Power scored above industry averages in 4 of the 5 categories assessed by B Corp, including two “Area of Excellence” scores in Consumer and Accountability categories.

To date the B Impact Ratings System has been completed by over 1,000 companies to assess, benchmark, and improve their performance. The System has also been selected by a group of investors including Prudential, JP Morgan Chase, and the Rockefeller Foundation to become the basis for GIIRS (the Global Impact Investment Ratings System). Investors’ Circle is a network of over 225 angel investors, professional venture capitalists, foundations, family offices and others who are using private capital to promote the transition to a sustainable economy. Since 1992, Investors’ Circle has facilitated the flow of over $133 million into more than 200 companies and small funds addressing social and environmental issues. Using the data from the 1,000+ companies that have taken the B Impact Ratings System assessment, Investors’ Circle members, leadership, and presenting companies can review a company’s performance in comparison to other IC presenting companies, the community of B Corporations, and the entire data set.
