Really nice article summarizing the news of the Mobile Solar Power System providing solar power to the base camp of Inception in The Urban Times – in part: “Christopher Nolan’s Summer 2010 Blockbuster smash “Inception, featuring superstar studmuffin Leo DiCaprio, shined on more fronts that just the Box Office (so far there has been a worldwide gross over over $240 Million). I loved the film – it was magnificent, profound and intelligent – but today I focus not on the celluloid but on the mechanism behind it.

Particularly the environmentally friendly mechanism. The film’s sets were powered by the world’s largest mobile solar power system, the S48T. This system was constructed by Pure Power Distribution is is the first of its kind capable of powering a movie base camp solely on the sun’s blessed rays….”

Catch the whole article here:

(Important note: the blockbuster film was shot in about 7 different countries and Pure Power provided solar power when the production was in LA – most including this writer seem to share the opinion that, while it would be wonderful if an entire production could be powered with solar – the technology is not quite there yet, and Pure Power is providing ‘a great start’.)

Pure Power has just completed providing solar power on our FIFTH FEATURE FILM for a major Hollywood studio, and before we start on number 5 and beyond, we’d like to review our favorite feature films that have used renewable energy as part of the power mix. Today’s Pure Power Solar Film pick is JONAH HEX.

Based on the DC Comics classic, starring Josh Brolin as Johan Hex, “a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort who can track anyone… and anything.” Highly stylized with lots of fast-action, this film also featured Megan Fox, John Malkovich and Michael Fassbender.

Pure Power’s role with this film was to provide a portion of the base camp’s power requirements. We developed an advanced Mobile Solar Power System (for its time), the S10, built a pair and delivered them to New Orleans. It was the second time, to our knowledge, that Mobile Solar Power had be brought to a feature film set.

Coming soon: Pure Power’s first feature film project.

We were proud to support IgnitedUSA last week in providing pure power to a fleet of 15 new plug-in Prius vehicles for Toyota.

The event, held under seasonably overcast Southern California skies (aka “June Gloom”) required each Hybrid S10 Mobile Solar Power Systems to recharge 5 Prius for fleet managers to view, assess and test-drive, over a period of 2 days.

Did we say Overcast? Not so fast: what seems to most to be overcast skies looks positively bright to a solar panel, and our Hybrid S10s calmly and quietly recharged the Prius (Priuses? Prii?) easy-as-you-please.

Pure Power sent a driver/operator skilled in both the navigational and power-providing arts to ensure that all the vehicles were properly charged and ready to go. Mission accomplished – and wouldn’t you agree, there’s something poetic about the vision of 15 Prius cars being charged with pure solar power?

~ IgnitedUSA, by the way, is a marketing innovations agency chock full of big brain rock stars – check them out here http://www.ignitedusa.com ~

Toyota, when you hold your next plug-in Prius rally, we are expecting a call for more pure power.

Solar-Powered Swing Singers, LA Marathon 2010

As the racers coursed through the Veteran’s Administration in Westwood at Mile 21, they were energized by a host of talented singers and dancers – whose instruments, mikes and amplifiers were powered by a clean, quiet portable solar generator.

The racers, families, war veterans and fans enjoyed the music, and weren’t bothered by the noise, exhaust and smell of diesel generators typically used for such live events.

It is believed to be the first mobile solar powered venue in the 25-year history of the LA Marathon.

“The US Veterans Administration does noble work and we are proud to be a part of their day,” said Norris Lozano, CEO of Pure Power. “We were thrilled to be surrounded by the talent on the stage, war heroes in the audience, and courageous athletes on the street. It was a great day!”

Pure Power Distribution (www.PurePowerD.com) used a “Hybrid S10” Mobile Solar Power System™ to power 7 high-energy acts throughout the 8-hour day. Sound checks started at 7am, but because of the intense Southern California sun and the Hybrid S10’s solar capture ability and deep cycle batteries, the Solar System actually ended the 8 hour work day with more energy in its batteries than when it started.

It was Pure Power’s first live stage show with The Show Pros/Laguna Creative (www.TheShowPros.com) – the first of many, if today’s success is any indication.

Each day that a big diesel generator works on a feature film base camp, it produces about a ton of carbon dioxide, releasing it into the atmosphere at the base camp. That’s one ton per generator, per day, by the way.

On the other hand, each day a Mobile Solar Base Camp Power System™ is used, another ton of CO2 is avoided. NOT generated. NOT released into an atmosphere that many say is already carrying an unsustainably high percentage of CO2.

Important to note: Carbon Dioxide is only one diesel byproduct. Particulate matter (soot), including 40 carcinogenic compounds (according to the EPA) is emitted by diesel generators – and THAT POLLUTION IS LOCAL. It’s falling on the neighborhoods, workers and natural environment where those generators are working.
