Mobile Solar is Sexy at SolarFeeds

September 28th, 2010

The folks at SolarFeeds are quickly building one of the biggest and best news resources in the solar industry. So it’s a VERY GOOD THING when a story about Pure Power shows up there – in this case, our blog post “Mobile Solar is Sexy”.

The story was about Pure Power being named a finalist by Opportunity Green for its Green Business Startup
Competition
. (Don’t think we won the competition, but it was tremendous to be recognized by Opportunity Green!)

Mobile Solar at California Baby

September 28th, 2010

Mobile Solar fans will be pleased to note that an S10 Mobile Solar Power System will be providing clean solar power at a very important event at California Baby on 10/10/10.

California Baby is an excellent and innovative company that makes healthy baby products – they’ve just built a solar system on the roof of their facility and are hosting the event that will use Mobile Solar to power the music.

The mobile solar generator was donated to California by the good people at RA Power & Light – check them out too.

“Mobile Solar is Sexy”

September 27th, 2010

As reported last week, Pure Power was selected as a finalist in the Opportunity Green – Green Business Startup competition. In fact, Opportunity Green founder Karen Solomon told us how much time and effort went into selecting this elite group, so it was quite an honor to be on that stage.

On Friday Pure Power’s VP of Marketing & Sales Christopher Smith presented at the annual conference (which had outgrown its former home at UCLA and was held in the downtown studio where Mad Men is filmed – (no star sightings, though).

The speech was more like a pitch, actually – like all the finalists, Smith had 1 minute 15 seconds to sway the audience, who then cast their votes online. “Like many of you, we’re in the solar business. But mobile solar is sexy…”

Mobile solar is not sexy because of what it does, of course, but what it doesn’t do – - which is to trash our planet. Because Pure Power’s mobile systems are used to replace diesel generators – which produce 22 lbs of carbon dioxide per gallon, PLUS 40 cancer-causing compounds AND soot -  mobile solar is VERY SEXY indeed.

And having worked on 5 features over the past 18 months, Pure Power is definitely ready for our close-up.

Pure Power saves lives with Mobile Solar Microgrid

September 21st, 2010

Recent news reports describe a logistical nightmare facing the US military: alarming numbers of troops killed guarding supply lines. One of the prime supply line items is the diesel fuel needed to run equipment, vehicles and generators in remote locations.

To help reduce supply-line fatalities by reducing the amount of diesel fuel needed in these remote locations, Pure Power (www.PurePowerD.com) has developed its first Military-Grade Mobile Solar Microgrid(TM). The first Mobile Solar Microgrid has been delivered.

“As a military unit extends forward, it brings along its power supply which, until today, was a generator that requires diesel fuel,” says Christopher Smith, Vice President of Pure Power, “Day after day that generator needs more fuel, which puts American lives at risk. Our Mobile Solar Microgrid reduces supply line threat because its fuel is sunlight. Not only will this help save lives by reducing logistical load, it is a clear example of how Americans can innovate to achieve security through energy independence.”

The Mobile Solar Microgrid is more powerful than Standard Pure Power Mobile Solar Power Systems developed by Pure Power. It carries 33% more battery storage, 20% more inverter capacity and 10% more solar-intake capacity than Standard Systems.

In addition to the Mobile Solar Microgrid, Pure Power has the biggest fleet of Mobile Solar Power Systems in the US, including the world’s most powerful mobile solar generator: the S-48T, which can provide up to 72,000 Watts of clean quiet solar power.

“The Mobile Solar Microgrid can also be used by emergency first responders on US soil,” says Smith, “and it’s an important earthquake preparedness tool for municipalities, universities and schools.”

Green ideas hit Hollywood and the 2010 Emmy Awards

September 10th, 2010

Pure Power is in the blogosphere again – this time on Tainted Green. The article is about the greening of the entertainment industry, from the Emmy Awards, to Conan O’Brien’s show to using solar generators on the film Inception starring Leo DiCaprio. Now, we know a little about Inception, having provided mobile solar power to the production’s base camp when it was shooting in LA.

DiCaprio mentioned using solar power on Inception in an article in the Philippine Times, which was captured by Ecorazzi, Huffington Post, the Sierra Club and Forbes.

What’s really amazing about the coverage is that, on DiCaprio’s Facebook Page, over 1,700 people read his piece and ‘liked’ it, and over 300 people commented. Heads up, entertainment industry – this is direct response to your positive actions!

Green Builders: Mobile Solar Power Systems are ready to rent!

September 8th, 2010

Even as the economy tries to decide whether to move upward, some number of construction projects are coming out of the ground here in California. And to power this new construction, Pure Power is offering Mobile Solar Power Systems on a rental basis. If you are planning or operating a construction job site and want to use solar, the clean renewable power source, please contact Pure Power or call us at (310) 569-9151.

WHY USE SOLAR IN CONSTRUCTION?

Not only do Pure Power’s solar generators produce enough pure, clean, quiet power to run a typical job site, but there are real economic and health benefits to using solar:

1) Economics

Imagine having to continually purchase fuel for your generator – $3.50 or so a gallon, day after day. And imagine paying a guy to go get the fuel, and fill it – that’s what, $50 a trip – plus productivity lost while he’s making the trip? And thenpaying another guy to lubricate and tune up the generator…. with a solar generator, none of these costs occur (and the rental rate is competitive with a diesel generator).

2) Health

A generator is a generator, right? Not really! Let’s start with the immediate impacts of a diesel generator: NOISE. A typical diesel generator produces about 100 decibels of noise -workers, managers, neighbors – - everyone gets annoyed (at best), and has actual physical reactions at worst (see link)

How about DIESEL EXHAUST? The EPA says that diesel exhaust contains 40 carcinogenic compounds. Um, anyone want to breathe those all day?

Diesel also comes with a delivery mechanism for those cancer-causing compounds – they latch onto diesel soot (particulate matter), and can be breathed deeply into sensitive lung tissue. Perhaps this is why the California Air Resources Board put this press release on its home page)

THE BIG PICTURE: GLOBAL IMPACTS OF DIESEL GENERATORS

A typical diesel generator creates over 22 lbs. of carbon dioxide for every gallon of fuel used. That’s not so much a local impact as a global one – do you want your jobsite to be a climate change contributor?

LED’s winning the lighting war

August 25th, 2010

Pure Power has lots of experience providing solar power for the entertainment industry – providing base camp power for 5 features and 2 TV productions (and other short runs and tests) and a fast-growing list of events.

One reason we have worked exclusively on base camps is because of the amazingly massive amount of power required to run the massive arrays of Edison (incandescent) bulbs used on set.

This may be changing – and fast. A new GreenTech Media report titled “Digital Lumens: LEDs Winning the Lighting War” states : “We’re in the midst of the great lighting transformation, with solid-state LEDs on the cusp of transforming the lighting industry. The Edison bulb will soon be a relic and CFLs an interim step.”
