Really nice article summarizing the news of the Mobile Solar Power System providing solar power to the base camp of Inception in The Urban Times – in part: “Christopher Nolan’s Summer 2010 Blockbuster smash “Inception, featuring superstar studmuffin Leo DiCaprio, shined on more fronts that just the Box Office (so far there has been a worldwide gross over over $240 Million). I loved the film – it was magnificent, profound and intelligent – but today I focus not on the celluloid but on the mechanism behind it.
Particularly the environmentally friendly mechanism. The film’s sets were powered by the world’s largest mobile solar power system, the S48T. This system was constructed by Pure Power Distribution is is the first of its kind capable of powering a movie base camp solely on the sun’s blessed rays….”

(Important note: the blockbuster film was shot in about 7 different countries and Pure Power provided solar power when the production was in LA – most including this writer seem to share the opinion that, while it would be wonderful if an entire production could be powered with solar – the technology is not quite there yet, and Pure Power is providing ‘a great start’.)

Karl Burkart posted a great story about Inception (the epic thriller by Christopher Nolan starring Leo DiCaprio) and Inception the mobile solar power story.
Says Burkart: “The mind-blowing dream sequences of “Inception” probably left you wondering how in the world the film’s producers pulled it off. But the question of how they powered such feats of cinematic megawattage may not have come to mind. The answer will surprise you … the sun!”

From the website Zap2It: Leonardo DiCaprio posted a link on his Facebook page to an Ecorazzie item about the solar panels used on his new hit film, “Inception.”
So in essence the environmental activist actor has used the film’s thesis — that an idea is the most virulent and powerful tool — to plant the idea about the future of green movie-making.”

Pure Power has just completed work on our 5th feature film, providing clean solar power to the base camp of Steve Carrell’s latest feature film project. Principal photography wrapped recently, and now we’re in discussion to provide Mobile Solar Power Systems to our 6th feature.
The entertainment business is really going the extra yard to green up their productions and operations, and we’ve been fortunate to have contributed to that development.
Stay tuned for more feature film news, along with TV series (last season we provided solar power to Criminal Minds – there are more in the works); rock concerts like Sasquatch; events like the ESPY Awards and LA Marathon; an “artsy” project; a “microgrid” project and a “frosty” project that are making our lives really interesting.

Nobel prize winning columnist Thomas Friedman blogged this week about the predictable results of dependence on fossil fuels and poorly insulated structures: death and destruction. (By inference, one could add that use of the military-grade Mobile Solar Microgrid, such as the one developed by Pure Power, could help reduce this threat).
“Making our country more energy efficient is not some green feel-good thing. Retired Brig. Gen. Steve Anderson, who was Gen. David Petraeus’s senior logistician in Iraq, e-mailed to say that “over 1,000 Americans have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan hauling fuel to air-condition tents and buildings. If our military would simply insulate their structures, it would save billions of dollars and, more importantly, save lives of truck drivers and escorts. … And will take lots of big fuel trucks (a k a Taliban Targets) off the road, expediting the end of the conflict.”

Leo DiCaprio shows his true environmental colors in an interview with the Philippine Inquirer recently. This is the article that was quoted in Ecorazzi.
Nice to see how down to earth he is, despite his talent a movie star wattage.
And also how focused he is on meaningful issues such as saving tigers and cleaning the atmosphere through use of mobile solar generators (self-serving comment alert: they’re our Systems) on Inception.
