For as long as anyone can remember, rumbling diesel generators have powered movie base camps; the “traveling back stage” of talent trailers, makeup, costume, production and catering that support a production as it moves from location to location.

The Pure Power Solar Hybrid Base Camp Power System automatically prioritizes solar power to reduce the use of fossil fuel and its effects, while ensuring consistent power. The System includes:

• Our most advanced Solar Hybrid Mobile Solar Power System™ – , which is Green Seal-certified by the Environmental Media Association, is an integrated solar/biodiesel power plant capable of producing 166 Amps (18,000 Watts STC) of consistent power and 327 Amps surge (36,000 Watts, STC). When configured with eco-fitted Solar Star Waggons, the Hybrid S10 can recharge from solar at up to 7200 Watts per hour (STC).

• Real-time reporting: clients receive real time online web-based reporting from Solar Hybrid Base Camp Power System tracking the solar power produced, the power used, CO2 and other environmental impacts via a custom web portal that is password-protected for the client if needed.

The production, made in conjunction with a nationwide campus competition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions called Chillout, had a wide variety of stars, producers, musicians, directors and producers involved.

The impact of the event was captured nicely on the local news.

This was the first time our new Super 10 was demonstrated, and it “barely broke a sweat” in providing an average of 30 amps of power to the kitchen. The Super 10, specially configured for the entertainment industry, is 3-phase and provides 26,000 watts of power at surge, and 13,500 watts continuous (72 amps per leg surge, and 37.5 amps per leg continuous), and 1,020 amp-hours of power. Cam locks, a spider box and other industry specific features are also included.

The stars were out in force on Thursday night as the Entertainment Media Association held its 18th Annual Environmental Media Awards at the historic Ebell Theater in Hollywood.

Pure Power Distribution, a new corporate sponsor for the EMAs and a company deeply supporting sustainable energy initiatives, elicited gasps of delight with its 20kW mobile solar generator, which was used to light the way for actors, directors, studio execs., producers and guests as they strolled from their hybrid cars to the “green carpet” and then to the awards ceremony and after-party.

Presenters included Amy Smart, Nicole Richie, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Norman Lear, Hart Bochner and Ed Begley Jr. Awards went to Rosario Dawson, Tiffany & Co., the Philadelphia Eagles, Into the Wild, 30 Rock, Handy Manny and others.

Debbie Levin and her amazing EMA staff found the opportunity to showcase the use of solar power on productions just weeks before the show with the help and push of Environmental Media Awards board members Jon and Susan Sheinberg. The EMA staff, along with The Green Machine production staff led by Brian Aspinwall, scrambled to reorganize the “green carpet” just to show how these mobile solar power systems can “PurePower” productions.

Outside the theater, everyone was amazed that the mobile solar generator utilized only its on-board, solar charged batteries to silently power high-wattage HMI lights for five hours after the sun had gone down.

Hart Bochner (“The Greenest Celebrity In Hollywood” according to Time Magazine) spent quite a while with Pure Power execs examining the solar trailer and discussing the importance of this technology. He told heartfelt stories of his own struggle with air pollution as an athlete growing up in Los Angeles, and his continuing efforts to reduce emissions of diesel generators in Hollywood productions.

”The entertainment industry has been on the cutting edge throughout its history. Now, more than ever, we need to lead the world in making “sustainable” the standard,” Bochner said.

“This solar trailer (from Pure Power Distribution) is clearly some of the most important technology available to us today and is extremely exciting and timely.”

Bochner has played a tireless role on the Board of the Environmental Media Association, helping to design and implement the EMA Green Seal, and is taking a lead in bringing this solar technology and solar generators from Pure Power Distribution to Hollywood sets.

Actors, directors and producers quizzed Norris Lozano, CEO and President of Pure Power Distribution, and Scott Chaplan, the Board Chairman, about how quickly these mobile solar generators could be delivered to satisfy actors’ and producers’ desire to get these noiseless, clean generators on their sets. All stated that this technology will help reduce the black soot and clatter of the diesel “gennies” and whet Hollywood’s hungry appetite for silent, clean energy.
